                  <text>Paul Cuffee School, a K-12 public charter school of choice, educates a diverse community of students from Providence, Rhode Island.  In the spirit of Paul Cuffee’s life, we teach students to value and practice personal initiative, perseverance, and social responsibility.  All of these qualities were put to the test for students this year, especially our graduating seniors.  The Paul Cuffee class of 2020 experienced a senior year unlike any other- cut short just before that time of year when, "I am graduating" sinks in and becomes reality.  No prom, no senior trip, no senior dinner or portfolio presentations, and certainly no deafening applause as they walked across the stage to receive their diplomas.  However, despite this and because of this, our class of 2020 was able to show amazing grit and resilience in order to pass their classes and earn their diplomas with a drive-through graduation ceremony!  This class has truly exemplified what it means to be committed to academic and personal growth, as well as a willingness to look outside themselves to find opportunities to make meaningful impacts in their communities (small and large).  It was with this in mind that their History teacher, Griffin Quirk, asked them to complete their final project- a reflective essay on what "I am Paul Cuffee 2020" means to them.               <text>Due to the pandemic, it has put a stranglehold on many of the things that are near and dear to my heart. These include seeing all of my close friends and some of my favorite teachers at school as well as participating in extra curricular activities such as sports. Although I can't do these things I am not one to just complain about everything and sit around doing nothing. I have still been active during this time and have exercised every day. I believe I have even gotten stronger both physically and mentally during this time. I have also felt a new appreciation for life as I know that many are struggling during these trying times and I try to cherish what I have because I know that a lot of people are not as fortunate. One thing I have done to keep people cheerful and positive minded is creating episodes for a podcast that I run. It is mainly about sports so I have had to think outside of the box, but I love doing it and I hope that I give the people that listen to them something to look forward to and just forget about the uncertainty that lies ahead for our nation.</text>

My experience with Covid learning was largely bad. I struggled to pay attention in zoom&#13;
classes and I felt trapped in my house, which got quite difficult after a long period of time. I&#13;
learned the value of in-person learning, while also gaining experience in independence that&#13;
usually doesn’t come until later in life. It was hard to be stuck in long zoom calls, especially&#13;
when everyone’s cameras were off and I was just staring at a blank screen for an hour. I wasn’t&#13;
alone, though, the whole world was struggling with me. In a way, it united the world and also&#13;
revealed underlying problems I hadn’t realized were even there. Some people couldn’t even get&#13;
access to good wifi for their classes. Now, I hope that people will be able to support and&#13;
sympathize for each other and the resources that they have, and work together to solve their&#13;
problems.</text>

              <text>If I were to tell the future generations about these times during the pandemic, I would say that you shouldn't take things that are important to you for granted. I would say to cherish every second with friends and family. I would let them know how quickly things can change, so live a little. You never realize how much you need someone or something until it is taken from you. These times during this pandemic are insane and crazy. I would let them know how the hospital staff, doctors, and nurses are outstanding and deserve all the recognition in the world and that you should never take them for granted. They put in so much to save lives and during this time proved they were strong and brave. During these times it was hard for everyone. Physically, emotionally, and mentally. Being in quarantine was a struggle for everyone. It left people with thoughts that they never had before because those thoughts were put to the back of their minds because they had things like school and friends to allow them to forget about it. I would say be grateful for having the ability to have physical contact with everyone and everything because it can easily be taken from you. I would tell them to always keep in touch with the older family members in their lives. I would say, don't take for granted having food on the dinner table, and easy access to almost anything and everything you need in your homes. Cherish the ability to go outside without a mask and breathe fresh air. If something is important to you, don't take that for granted, whether it be sports, arts, photography, or anything you love because anything, like a pandemic, can take that away from you. Most importantly is your education. Don't take for granted the privileges you have to be surrounded by the friends you've grown up with, and the ability to have an education that isn't through a computer screen. I would tell them that things get tough, but if you fight through it and think positive, good things will happen. &#13;
